| In the first discourse of al-Sharafiyyah composed of five discourses, Safi al-Dîn examined the theory of sound and carried out this subject by narrating ideas mostly from al-Fârâbi and partly from Ibn Sîna. In this discourse Safi al-Dîn explains the ideas of al-Fârâbi on the formation of sound and points out his defective points. He defines note and explains the reasons of the acuity and gravity. He examines some ideas of al-Fârâbi and Ibn Sîna in this subject and indicates that he disagrees with them and states the defective points of them. Then he explains the reasons of the acuity and gravity in the stringed and wind instruments. Later on he writes on the features of note. (2) |
